BMW Security Vehicles armor the X5 and 7-Series on the production line — the X5 Protection VR6 offers VR6-class protection, the 7-Series and i7 Protection reach VR9/VR10 for diplomatic use. INKAS also builds the X5 and X7 to B6+ aftermarket. The i7 xDrive60 Protection is among the first fully-electric armored sedans. M5 CS and M-line cover BMW's performance halo.
BMW began in 1916 as an aircraft-engine maker (the roundel echoes a spinning propeller). Car production followed the 1928 acquisition of Dixi. The Neue Klasse (1962) saved the company and defined the sport-sedan. BMW Security Vehicles has built factory-armored cars since the 1970s; the current 7-Series Protection and i7 Protection are engineered alongside the standard car, not retrofitted. BMW acquired Rolls-Royce (1998) and runs MINI.
